It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Lin Jianxiang of Peking University, a renowned educator and pioneer in the field of educational technology in mainland China. Professor Lin passed away on February 2, 2022.
He was a strong supporter of the International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE) in the early years of the conference series. He attended the ICCE1995 conference held in Singapore, and played a pivotal role in bringing ICCE to mainland China for the very first time, serving as the main organizer of the ICCE1998 conference held in Beijing. The conference brought together experts from around the world to share their ideas and research on the latest developments in educational technology, drawing a very large number of international and local attendees.
As a highly respected figure in the academic community, Professor Lin made significant contributions to the fields of computer-assisted instruction and educational technology in mainland China and beyond. He was a dedicated teacher and mentor to countless students, inspiring and guiding them as they pursued their own careers in the field. Professor Lin believed in the power of technology to revolutionize education and was a true visionary in this regard.
In his later years, Professor Lin continued to seek and create knowledge, actively attending talks (whenever he can do so) and participating in academic discussions. His humility, commitment and devotion to academic excellence serve as an inspiration to us all.
Professor Lin’s passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the impact he made on the field of educational technology. He will be deeply missed by his colleagues, friends, students, and students of his students, but his work and spirit will continue to inspire future generations.
May he rest in peace.
